This is a full-day class
The Farm Experience
You will be warmly greeted and will start the day with Tea or Espresso to enjoy while gathered around the school’s vast macrocarpa table. Housekeeping is explained and the chef hosting the class will introduce the day’s menu, that you will be preparing and cooking.
You will then head outdoors and will take in all that the farm has to offer, including the large kitchen gardens. Our gardener Adrianne will be taking you through a full cycle of our gardens as we collect the freshest produce along the way for the day’s menu. This can include vegetables, herbs, and edible flowers from the kitchen gardens.
We will then make our way back to the Cookery school kitchen, with our produce ready to wash and prepare. Finding your spot around the main table, the cooking of recipes will then be delegated amongst the guests. Allowing guests to prepare different components of the menu ( much like a professional kitchen ). This can be very fluid and movement around the kitchen is encouraged.
During the cooking portion of the day, the chef will be guiding you through the dishes and demonstrating handy tips and tricks. These can include butchery skills, baking technical tips and cooking methods. We don’t want you to miss out on anything and questions are welcomed.
You will stop later in the morning for some freshly baked bread or a snack you have created, as chefs do get hungry! You will then head back into the kitchen to finish your creation, it’s then time to plate, the chef will show you how to plate the food to its best potential and let you in on some secret tips.
The dishes will then be placed in the centre of the main table where they will be shared among guests. You can then take your time and enjoy the fruits of your labour accompanied by a complimentary housemade soda, locally made wines or craft beer (x1 per person), whilst taking in the stunning views over Muriwai valley.
After lunch, you can then relax and enjoy looking through the Farm shop shelves filled with Good from scratch salts, rubs, and preserves made in the Cookery school kitchen before heading home.
